DOUGLAS COUNTY PUBLIC WORKS, COUNTY SURVEYOR AND GIS DIVISION

The mission of the County Surveyor’s Office is to maintain, improve, and distribute reliable information about the Public Land Survey and real property boundaries in Douglas County.

The mission of the Geographic Information System (GIS) Office is to provide geographically based information to citizens, other governmental units, and County staff, leading to better decision-making.

PARCEL MAPPING INFORMATION

PARCEL INTERACTIVE MAP - The County’s original GIS parcel database was created for planning purposes and did not have the means to control the positional accuracy. Our goal is to improve both the accuracy and accessibility of the parcel database. The Survey and GIS Division is using Global Positioning System (GPS) and Coordinate Geometry (COGO) to create a more accurate representation of the actual parcel boundaries and will continue to work on improving the accuracy of the parcel database. Use this link to view current parcels, record plats, air photos, maps, and more.

PLAT DATABASE – Use this link to find and view recorded subdivision plats.

HALF-SECTION MAPS - The Survey and GIS Division is responsible for the traditional Half-Section Mapping of tax parcels. Use this link to view current half-section maps.

TOWNSHIP LAND OWNERSHIP MAPS – Use this link to view general land ownership by township.

LAND SURVEYOR INFORMATION

The U.S. General Land Office commenced the survey of the Douglas County area in 1857 and completed the final subdivision of the last of the 20 townships in 1871. Approximately 2,800 Public Land Survey corners were established during this period. These corners are the basis of all land ownership in the county. It is the primary duty of the County Surveyor’s Office to recover, preserve, and maintain the location of those corners for the benefit of all property owners in the county.

PLS – View the status of Public Land Survey corners and section subdivisions.

PLAT CHECKING - Plat Checking is the examination of all newly submitted Subdivision Plats, Registered Land Surveys, & Condominiums (Common Interest Communities or CIC Plats). Before any plat can be recorded at Douglas County, it must be approved by the County Surveyor for compliance with appropriate statutes and ordinances. View the Plat Checking Ordinance and Checking Manuals.

E-911 ADDRESSING

ADDRESSING - The Douglas County Surveyor’s Office is responsible for issuing physical property addresses outside of all incorporated city limits in Douglas County. Addresses are issued at the point of access of driveway location. The Office maintains a County-wide E911 address database that is used by the County Sheriff’s dispatchers to aid in locating locations. The Office assists city governments with address assignments to help insure the integrity of the E911 system. The Office publishes the County Rural Address Atlas. Use this link to obtain the application for address and road name assignment.
